The Lion and The Lamb

Lions have captured the imagination of people for centuries and for good reason, they’ve featured in both books and movies. One of the scariest movies I ever saw was The Ghost and the Darkness, Ghost and Darkness being the names of the man-eating lions that starred in the movie! Lions are powerful creatures that sit at the top of the African food chain. The Swahili word for lion, simba, means “king”, “strong” and “aggressive”. The word “lion” has similar meaning in our vocabulary. If you call someone lionhearted, you’re describing a courageous and brave person. If you lionize someone, you treat that person with great interest and importance. On Good Friday, we will look at the significance of Christ being the Lamb of God, but Easter Sunday we are going to see why the Bible also describes Jesus Christ as a lion. The lion and the lamb are two very different creatures, how can they both be symbolic of our Lord and Saviour? The answer is found in the death and resurrection of Jesus…

Don’t miss celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ with Cityview Church this Easter! Our Good Friday service is only a one hour service from 10 am and our Easter Sunday service starts at 9.30 am. Both services will include Holy Communion. We look forward to seeing you there!  Ps Pamela
