Stick of Rock

Stick of Rock

A Letter from Barry  Powell, December 2009

When I first came to interact with the church community, I gradually came to realize, that the difference between this community and others is the members of this community are as rocks to themselves and to others. Like rock solid, a rock of faith, a safe place to stand etc.

Each one is also like a sweet lollie rock, yes I make no mistake, you all are sweet, kind, and loving. But the main similarity, is that no matter where you bite a stick of rock, the name of the rock is there throughout the whole sweet. It is no longer just a name, a hat put on, or an adjunct, but has been integrated into, and become a part of, the rock. This community has integrated Christianity into themselves so that they are not, for example, John, who is a Christian, but a Christian called John, and Christianity is part of them and influences their thoughts and actions at all times and this makes them very different and very special. So I want to pray that God blesses this church and makes it grow and prosper, and end this prayer with an amen, which means “so be it”; not a goal for the future, but already an ongoing process. God bless this church and make it grow and prosper. Amen
